The Mormon Apostles ‘Splain Gawd’s Position on Gay Marriage: Whew !!! Glad someone got the message direct from His drooling maw.

"While many governments and well-meaning individuals have redefined marriage, the Lord has not,"
So says  Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve, the high level board that controls the Mormon church’s doctrine and thus the thinking of its cult members.  Whole story here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/05/mormon-gay-marriage_n_5097821.html?utm_hp_ref=religion

Really?  Well let’s see: the Lard defined marriage as one man and as many women as he wanted (witness King David, among others), 1 Kings 11.  The Lard defined marriage between one man and the woman he raped (if he pays 50 shekels), Deut. 22. The Lard defined marriage between a man and a captured virgin girl of a tribe that was slaughtered, Numbers 31.  How is it that the Lard didn’t reverse any of these policies, but they are nevertheless not adhered to today?
Oh yes…the Lard has defined lots of kinds of marriages; in fact concubines [translation: sex slaves] mixed into the marriage was endorsed by god. Heck, seems it didn't bother the Lard if incest (a game the whole family can play) ran rampant - witness Lot's daughters, Adam and Eves children, Noah's grandchildren, et al.  I guess as long as the Lard could watch he was okay with it.

So now, according to the great and powerful board of the Twelve Mormon misogynists, the Lard has defined marriage as ONLY between one man and one woman? Hmmm … that’s funny, in neither of my bibles (the KJV and NIV) does the Lord define marriage as between "one man and one woman".  You won’t find it in your copies either.
But hey… it’s the Mormons, the same people who said God told them he wanted them to be polygamists.  Well, that is until they were going to be refused entry into the Union because of it, and then suddenly God changed his mind. Coincidental no doubt.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Christianity.  Cultish self-serving interpretation of the bible to support institutionalized homophobia -  thy name is Mormon. I despise those nutters.

I'm with you almost all the way, Hump. But I humbly suggest we should "Despise the nutters, but pity the nuts". Just because christofascist hypocrites can't quite seem to love the sinner while hating the sin doesn't mean atheists have follow their lead.

The vast majority of the nutters you describe never had the chance to exercise critical thinking skills, since these very skills were among the first casualties of their indoctrination. They can only parrot what they are taught. And they are only taught "The Word of the Lard".

If they weren't allowed to vote, I would have no objections to them at all.

  3. The word of the 'Lard' (I do like that term) is anything that suits the religious male at the time and is very much 'do as I say not as I do'. See homosexuality in the Vatican city.

  4. Geoff: Guilty!

kompani, I sometimes wonder if religions were devised and managed by women,if they'd be far less hypocritical..but then, we'll never know. On the other hand, Christian Scientists was estab. by a woman..and they're as nutty as fruitcakes as well.

    Riley: Thanks for your input.

But, I have to reject the idea that by despising the homophobic, misogynistic, and self deceived supernaturalists who seek to impose their stunted thinking on the world, that atheist activists are "following their lead".

As I said in my first book in a chapter entitled something like "Being Intolerant of Intolerance", hating those who oppress, practice genocide, and enslave is not at all like being one who hates and thus oppresses, enslaves and practices genocide.

One of them is on "the side of the angels" so to speak, while the other is what makes the world a hideous place.

Thus, I'm comfortable in my condemnation and hatred of religious nutters. And they don't get off the hook by virtue of their indoctrination. Most atheists had a religious upbringing of some sort, and yet exercised their innate ability to reason and to break free from it.

No, I no more give the religiously ensnared a pass than I do the perp who kills his parents and then expects mercy because he was on drugs at the time... or because he's an orphan. ;)

  5. Riley, I'm starting to agree with you. I'm finding it more and more difficult to justify mental defectives the voting franchise.
